Plan for the conditions your home faces.
A cold winter, humid summer and storm season can all matter at the same address. Select more than one exposure to create a practical, printable observation list—without a ZIP code or guessed forecast.
Home care priorities
Choose conditions and build a plan. A basic recordkeeping prompt appears below as an example.
- Keep a property-specific record
Record observed changes, dates and service contacts; compare with equipment manuals and local authority guidance.
What the selector does—and does not do
This tool matches your self-selected exposures to observation and preparation prompts. It does not determine a climate zone, assess flood or fire risk, read your location, access live weather, set mandatory service dates, or diagnose damage. A home can have several exposures at once. The output is intentionally ordered with weather-specific preparation first and general records afterward.
Example: selecting freezing temperatures and frequent heavy rain produces separate freeze-exposure and drainage reviews, followed by a recordkeeping prompt. Choosing no exposure produces only the baseline recordkeeping prompt. Check local emergency alerts and manufacturer manuals before acting.
Why climate matters
The U.S. Department of Energy explains that moisture management and weatherization depend on the building and climate. Ready.gov provides separate preparedness guidance for winter weather, floods, extreme heat and wildfires. The EPA moisture guide explains why persistent dampness warrants attention.
